What a feeling!!! After months of preparations and excitement, we finally made it to West End on Gran Bahama (~120nm sail from Port Saint Lucie) and were ready to clear into the country. I can’t describe the feeling of relief that we made it so far and had a few months of relaxed cruising (or at least mostly relaxed) in front of us. Customs and immigration were nice people, however buying a Bahamian flag set us back 40 dollars (welcome to Bahamas prices, we could have gotten the flag for 5 dollars back in the US).
Our first anchorage was quite special, in an abandoned Marina development, but super protected and a great introduction to the Bahamian adventures ahead of us. Immediately we put Jannis’ and Julia’s Kayak into the water, pumped up our stand-up-paddle board and all went into the water – finally and for the first time now on Taka Tuka.
