#32 San Blas with friends 1 – Jungle-hike to a waterfall

In August, our friends Anne, Moritz, Lino and Leila came to visit us on Taka Tuka during their summer-vacation. Moritz and Anne are the couple that introduced us to sailing years ago, on a great two-week charter with friends in Greece. Ever since, we have been sailing together many times, with or without kids. And so we were very excited to welcome them aboard and have their company for two weeks. They were brought directly from Panama City to San Blas where we went to pick them up at Green Island. We let them settle in their hull and get used to boat-life before taking them on a hike to a waterfall. Max, the son of one of the vegetable-delivery guys, guided us, first up the river with the dinghy and then through the lush jungle for about 3 hours to a waterfall. All along the hike, we kept seeing a waterpipe which brings the water from the very top to the village at Rio Azucar. There was a good trail through the dense jungle, which crossed the river several times. We were astonished that the kids didn’t complain too much although the hike was pretty far – they actually really loved it. It felt so great to do some hiking and move our legs, since we don’t usually get this kind of exercise on the boat.
