Since Jannis and I have our birthdays right after each other, this meant we invited the sailor-community for two potlucks in a row. It was so nice to see how happy Jannis was with his island-birthday. He received so many cool gifts from other sailors, like fabric, needles and thread (since they knew he is a passionate sewer) as well as leather to make a bag with, nice bracelets and a spark-maker to make fire with. He actually insisted on his potluck being a sweet potluck, so there were lots of cakes and cookies involved. One of the sailors has prepared a game that we played all together, young and old and were running around the island like crazy people having fun. It was great to have Anne and Moritz and their kids around, they were great birthday-company and helped us prepare nice surprises for both birthday-kids. On my birthday-potluck, a sailor-friend barbecued a freshly caught fish for me on the fire, and made one of my sailor-dreams come true. On Jannis’ potluck, we grilled stick bread and chocolate-bananas on the fire which the kids of course loved very much.
