#6 Spotting dolphins and celebrating carnival in Beaufort North Carolina

Entering the Beaufort inlet can be quite daunting because it is shallow and there is lots of current, but luckily, we didn’t have much wind and the entrance was fine. We spotted dolphins (our first ones on the journey so far) when entering. What a cute little town Beaufort is. We anchored close to the public dinghy dock at an anchorage which was frequented by dolphins several times a day. We really enjoyed Beaufort and it felt so good to be under way with Taka Tuka. The temperatures were already much warmer than in the Chesapeake and the town was celebrating Mardi Gras carnival, which was reason enough for the kids to dress up and join the party. During the nights, when the wind picked up, we got to know Taka Tuka’s current-wind-dance: when there is current and wind, she can go pretty wild, with the bridal pulling her from side to side and she circles around like dancing a Waltz. Luckily there was enough space and we didn’t bump into any other boats. In a cute little shop in town, we got ourselves colorful Taka Tuka hats with embroidery, each with their own little animal in front, the crew-member’s name and Taka Tuka on the back. Little did we know that it wouldn’t take long until we lost those colorful beauties.
