#8 Stuck in muddy swamps and off to Saint Augustine Florida

Our next stop after Bohicket was a less glamorous one, in the swamps of Beaufourt South Carolina. Actually, not a planned stop. After just a few hours of sailing from Bohicket Creek, we realized that we hadn’t chosen our weather window very wisely, felt a bit seasickish and were looking for the next possible place to anchor. And so, after a pretty uncomfortable inlet, we landed in the swamps of Beaufourt South Carolina. Although the nature around us was stunning, it wasn’t the nicest stay as we couldn’t really go ashore anywhere and it was rainy and thunderstormy … And so we were stuck in the muddy swamps, waiting for the next morning to be able to continue our journey southwards. After a longish sail from the muddy swamps, we arrived in St. Augustine (~160 nm from the swamps). We had heard so many good things about this place that we were very excited to go discover it. It’s a touristy little town but has a lot to offer when you’re looking for some relaxed and fun family times. We went to see the fort and enjoyed a slow stroll through the oldest city of the US. We also really enjoyed the street-music and restaurants with live-music. And, of course, the fact that we had finally arrived in Florida and temperatures were so nice and warm and we literally felt that we were getting closer to the Bahamas.
