Our life at Dennis Point – preparing for the big adventure

Dennis Point is a pretty remote Marina, hidden in the forests of the Chesapeake and surrounded by stunning nature. It was to be our home for over a month in preparation of our sailing adventure. Even though our boat was in good condition, a few very essential things needed to be sorted. Our to-do list was full and we knew from our previous sailing adventure that it is wise to have two to-do lists. One for before you leave and one that can be managed under way. With a car and access to Amazon deliveries, we spent many a dollar on provisioning, buying spare parts and completing our gear. The kids spent their time mostly playing independently – they didn’t have much choice as Mom and Dad were so busy. Julia would sometimes ask: Why do you always have to work on the boat, probably imagining the whole boat adventure to be about fixing boats (isn’t it though?!). They found a nice tree they could climb, organized picnics with their dolls and teddies in the snow, made snowball-fights and even went to drink a hot chocolate in the restaurant all by themselves, ordering in English (with a little VHF-support from Mom and Dad). During that time, Mom and Dad did their best to get the boat ready, getting systems started, putting the sails up, sorting through gear, ordering spare parts, failing at fixing the outboard and buying a new one, etc.
