Arriving at Dennis Point in the Arctic Cold

After a few days in the warmth of a house in Washington, it was time for us to move to our boat. We knew that arriving in January could potentially involve snow-storms and cold temperatures but were counting on the Chesapeake Bay’s reputation of mild winters. NOT THIS TIME! It was cold, very very cold and the boat was snowed in when we arrived. Looking back, I’m not sure how we were able to manage the cold so bravely. With three electric heaters we brought the temperature to 10°C higher than outside, which meant that the nights which were -10°, we had cozy 0° inside when waking up. I’m absolutely amazed at how the kids dealt with the situation, they never complained because of the cold and also they wore at least 3 sweatshirts less than us adults and were happy with one blanket instead of 5! They did amazing.
